Stuart Hall Scholarship

The Stuart Hall scholarship is offered to one student in the Department of Media and Film. It is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by the University of Sussex.

  • The recipient is awarded the amount of 5000 GBP (4,97,202 INR) under this scholarship. The amount is provided as tuition fee reduction to the students.
  • The Stuart Hall Scholarship is a country-specific scholarship. Students from selected countries can take advantage of the scholarship including India, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and a few more countries.
  • Selections are based on factors like academic merit, 500 word personal statement, long-term plans, and volunteer work.

The main aim of the scholarship is to provide financial aid to the students who want to study in the UK by providing a reduction in the cost of attendance.

Criterio de elegibilidad

Students opting for the master’s programs offered by the Department of Film and Media will be considered eligible for the Stuart Hall Scholarship. In addition to that,

  • Applicants must hold or expect to hold a first class honours degree or the overseas equivalent.
  • Applicants must not be a recipient of any other scholarship from Sussex.

Proceso de solicitud

An online application must be submitted for the scholarship after you have submitted the course application. You will have to use the same application number that you receive after completing the course application.

  • Fill in personal details.
  • Write a 500-word statement of purpose, explaining your interest in the area of study and your future plans, as well as any voluntary activities you have undertaken.
  • Upload a CV detailing your previous education and work experience.
  • The documentary uploaded in your course application form will also be reviewed for the scholarship.

If you are selected, the Scholarships Office will notify you. The deadline for form submission is usually in June/July.

Students who are planning to focus on the following areas, which are of interest to Stuart Hall, are given preference:

  • Postcolonial and Diasporic Modernities
  • Cultural Studies
  • Race, Ethnicity and Visual Cultures
  • Radical Thinking on the Left

Only one scholar is selected every year across all the Masters programs.

Note: Those students who have received any other Sussex Scholarships like the Chancellor’s International Scholarship, Sussex India Scholarship are not eligible for Stuart Hall scholarship.
