NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship

These scholarships are available to outstanding international students who are planning to pursue undergraduate courses at the University.

The eligibility criteria:

• The candidates pursuing any bachelor’s degree and have received an offer of acceptance for the undergraduate Programme from NUI Galway are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
• Also, the candidates besides accepting an offer to study must have paid an acceptance deposit as well to the university.
• The candidates will be selected based on merit and will be offered partial tuition fee reductions by the university.

The candidates belonging to different parts of the world planning to study in Ireland can apply to these scholarships- NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship. The international students meeting the eligibility criteria for the course are eligible to apply to these scholarships which can help them in accomplishing their dreams to study abroad.

How to Apply for the NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship?

Before applying for the scholarship, international students must have received an offer of acceptance from the university to pursue undergraduate studies from NUI Galway.

• The students must check their eligibility criteria for the course before applying for the scholarship.
• The scholarship applicants will be evaluated based on eth academic skills. In addition to demonstrating excellent academic skills, the candidates must also submit a personal statement (MS Word, 1,000 words maximum) which covers the following points:
  • The applicant’s interest in studying in Ireland and NUI Galway.
  • The prospect of the applicants and how they see themselves as an ambassador for NUI Galway post coming to Ireland for studying.
• A selection committee will assess the eligible scholarship applications according to their on Merit and by considering their personal statement as well.
• In case the candidate’s application for NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship is successful, they will receive an email confirming receipt from the university of their scholarship applications within 5 working days.

The candidates must apply for the scholarship by e-mailing their personal statement to InternationalScholarships@nuigalway.ie before 30th June 2020. Make sure to put the Undergraduate Merit Scholarship in the subject line of the e-mail application.

The donor of the NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship is NUI Galway.

Receiving payment

The future international students planning to study at the university will get a partial tuition fee waiver in the first year fees only.

The scholarship is available to all the prospective international students who have been selected by the university to pursue an undergraduate course from NUI Galway. The aspirants receiving the offer letter for studies from the university can apply for the scholarship- NUI Undergraduate Merit Scholarship. The students will be assessed according to their academic merit and as per the personal statement (MS Word, 1,000 words maximum) which they have submitted at the time of applying for it.

Note: The candidates shortlisted by the university for the scholarship must confirm their acceptance of the Scholarship within the specified timeline. In case of no response from the candidates’ side, it will be considered that he/she does not wish to accept the scholarship. The acceptance of the scholarship made be made through email and (if available) proof of application of study visa as well.

Terms & Conditions

• This scholarship is one-off partial tuition fee waiver and is not a cash award, and no payment will be made by the University.
• The scholarships that are utilized will be reallocated. The candidates must inform the International Office in case they are not using the scholarship award so that the award can be awarded to the next ranked successful candidate.
• The scholarships are available to the candidates who are classified as non-EU for tuition fee purposes.
• Since the application process of each scholarship scheme differs from each other, so you must pay particular attention to the application details to the scholarship you are applying to.
• The candidates can apply for more than one scholarship as well; however, they cannot utilize more than one scholarship.
• The candidate must be pursuing a full-time course at NUI Galway to get the scholarship, in case a student withdraws from the program for which she/he has registered then he/she is required to repay the whole or any part of the Scholarship is decided to the university.
• The scholarship holders are asked to participate in various activities like welcoming delegations of visits from their home country to the campus or offering a testimonial of their experience.
