Sir Ratan Tata Post-Doctoral Fellowship for South Asian students

Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship program is a collaboration between the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. The program is intended for Ph.D. holders belonging to South Asia, SAARC region (Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sir Lanka).

Under this program, one scholar is awarded a six-month fellowship at LSE India Observatory. The recipient gets a monthly allowance of 2,337 USD with access to research facilities and a shared workspace.

The selected fellow is expected to engage in social science research on the Economy and Society in India and South Asia with their primary focus on:

  • Sustainable growth and inclusion
  • Climate change and environmental sustainability
  • Social and human security
  • Governance and democracy

Also, the fellow must finish a research paper and make a presentation at the seminar organized by the India observatory.

Within the limits of this fellowship, assistance will be provided to the fellow towards the cost of travel to the U.K. and related outlays. However, no additional financial benefits will be provided to the fellow to facilitate the fieldwork or any other activities.

Criterio de elegibilidad

The foremost eligibility criteria for Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship at LSE is that applicants must belong to the SAARC region.

In addition to the eligible citizenship, applicants must fulfill the following academic requirements:

  • Applicants should have been awarded their Ph.D. degrees.
  • Applicants should have started their research work on social science with a focus on South Asia.
  • Applicants should be employed at a recognized institution in the SAARC region.

The application process of Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship program can be summarized in three steps:

Step I: Check the official website page and read the fellowship guidelines. The application guidelines for Sir Ratan Tata Fellowships 2020-21 will be available in February 2020.

Step II: Provide the required student supporting documents:

  • Research proposal
  • Letters of recommendation (minimum two)

Proceso de selección

The selection of the Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellow is done by the Fellowship Selection Committee of LSE. Based on the eligibility criteria, the committee shortlists applicants for an interview.

The final decision of the Fellow is made after the interview. The committee’s decision is final and cannot be challenged by any applicant.

Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship program began in 1997 at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The institution partnered with the trust to encourage scholars from the SAARC region to pursue research in the field of Social Science.

For every academic session, a Fellow is selected and awarded a monthly allowance of 2,337 USD. Along with this, the recipient is offered a shared workspace and access to research facilities at the school.
