Debesh Kamal Scholarship

Indian students planning to pursue higher education in any international university may apply for the Debesh Kamal Scholarship. The scholarship program is applicable for undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degree programs.

Debesh Kamal Scholarship is valid for all universities in the world, including universities in the US, UK, Canada.
Recipients are awarded with a scholarship amount of INR 1 Lakh.
The scholarship reward amount must be used for tuition fees only.
- Other expenses (accommodation, travel, insurance) must be borne by the recipient only.
Selections are finalized after an interview session of shortlisted candidates.

Debesh Kamal Scholarship is open for Indian students of all academic fields. However, preference will be given to those belonging to humanities and social science.

Criterio de elegibilidad

Indian Nationals irrespective of their caste, creed, and religion are accepted as the applicants for this scholarship. The applicant’s age should not be more than 30 years and admission at an institution abroad. should have been procured by the applicant to be eligible for this.

In addition, for Debesh Kamal Scholarship, an applicant has to fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

Must possess a good academic record
- Preferred subjects of study/research: Humanities and the basic sciences
- Applicants wishing to study in other areas like social sciences and applied science and technology are also considered
Must have enough financial resources to cover the other expenses of his/her studies abroad.
Must have been accepted by the recognized foreign university or equivalent institution for the desired course/study.
Research applicants should have their research project approved the accepting institution.

Proceso de selección

Evaluation of all the submitted applications will be conducted by a selection committee appointed by the Mission for this purpose.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an individual interview session. The session will be conducted by the selection committee at:

The applicants have to bear the expenses of traveling to Kolkata to appear for this interview themselves. However, applicants residing more than 100 km away from the city of Kolkata will be reimbursed second class railway fare for their travel.

Note:” The Committee may make certain exceptions for short term or highly prestigious courses/projects, which entirely depends on the selection committee members”

Terms & Conditions

Since the maximum award amount is 1 lakh INR only, students are expected to have sufficient financial resources to cover the expenses which will not get covered by the scholarship.
Students pursuing all courses will be considered for the scholarship. But the selection committee will give preference to students pursuing education in humanities and the basic sciences.

The Debesh Kamal scholarship is meant to waive off a part of the expenses an Indian student, studying abroad might incur. Students who apply for this scholarship are required to declare any additional scholarships/ financial aid they might be receiving. Furthermore, they are required to sign an undertaking stating that they will endeavor to enhance the corpus fund of the Ramakrishna Mission. This will ensure that the Debesh Kamal Scholarship remains available for other deserving students.
