es GRE exam eligibility 2023 doesn’t have any strict age or academic qualification requirement to take the exam. The only GRE exam eligibility that the candidates need to be concerned about is having an undergraduate degree. GRE eligibility criteria for Indian students is to have a valid passport. Presently, during the COVID-19 outbreak, the mandatory GRE eligibility is wearing a mask while entering the exam center.

According to the conducting authority of GRE, ETS, there is no rigidity regarding the age of the candidate. But GRE exam eligibility has to be followed strictly in terms of ID proof, and universities also have their pre-determined GRE eligibility which has to be followed by candidates. ID Required for GRE

GRE exam eligibility criteria in India consider the passport as the only ID proof. Most of the requirement for ID is to make the GRE registration process smooth.

  • The spelling of the name must be the same in the form and the ID proof (Remember, failing to match the name in the application form and ID proof, an application can be canceled)
  • Photocopies are not accepted – produce the ID proof in original
  • ID proof must not be expired – check the date beforehand
  • The attached photograph in the ID proof must be recent
  • The signature should be similar

In the GRE test centers, the ID proofs will be used for verification purposes and that may include:

  • Biometric of the candidate
  • Fingerprint verification or thumb impression verification
  • Photo identification
  • Signature comparison
  • Videotaping

Tips: Stay calm during the verification process – it may take some time, don’t allow your energy to be drained during the verification process. Also, do check the ID proof and its validity time and again before the exam. In terms of GRE exam eligibility age, there is no maximum age limit for GRE. 

GRE Score Eligibility for University

It needs to be noted that GRE is taken by the aspirants of MBA, MS, or law courses in the globally top universities. Though there is no age or educational specifications falling under GRE requirements, according to research it has been found that 33 is the average age of students pursuing their grad. Apart from the qualifying GRE score, these programs may ask for a number of criteria to be met by the candidates, for example:

  • Score in undergraduate courses
  • Score in language proficiency courses like TOEFL and IELTS
  • Project Quality
  • Work experience
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Letter of purpose

The average TOEFL score for graduate admission should be 86, whereas the average GRE score range for admission is around 150 – 152. ETS has put no pressure on previous qualifications until the candidate is an undergraduate in any stream (arts, science, business, humanities, and so on). Universities don’t have any strictness regarding it, though they might ask for a certain GPA. For instance, the Ivy League schools require high GPAs like Harvard with 3.8 and Columbia with 3.85 on a 4.0 scale.
